Happy Monday! The weekends always fly by way too quickly, don’t they? Even though it is the second week of April and technically, I should have done this post last week, I didn’t get the chance to photograph wearing my staple of the year last week. So I re-wore it yet again this week, this time with a hot pink blouse and my ultimate staple — my military-esque jacket. So far, this is my favorite way I’ve worn my staple of the year. (See January, February and March.) We had beautiful, 70-degree weather this weekend, and I couldn’t resist pulling out my wedges and sandals. Premature? Perhaps. But I like to live in the moment, and the moment was telling me wedges were the way to go.

We had a surprise snowstorm this past weekend that kept my roommate and I indoors all Sunday; it was the opportune time to try out our fireplace and read all day, so I won’t complain too much. What I will complain about is this sweater weather when all I want to wear are colorful spring dresses, skirts, and ankle-length trousers. Since I’m boycotting tights until next fall, pants jeans it is. You may force me to wear jeans, Mother Nature, but you can’t take away my color.

So today is the first of my glossy inspiration series. I subscribe to so many magazines but never seem to get much use out of them beyond a read or two. So I’m determined to make better use of them and pick something out of each one to inspire an outfit each week.
This week’s glossy inspiration comes from the January issue of Glamour. The article was all about self-expression and what makes an outfit “you.” I love mixing menswear and feminine pieces, so when I saw the way the model had paired her brogues with cropped trousers, I knew I wanted to do the same, just with a slightly more feminine kick — hence the very bright colors, neon necklace and floral blouse.

I have a special place in my heart for intarsia knits—particularly ones that I probably would have worn as a child. So because this sweater and blouse might be something I’d have sported in grade school, I added some slouchy boyfriend jeans and men’s style brogues.

Sweaters are my thing and definitely take up about 60 percent of my wardrobe. A fair isle sweater makes me wish I lived in New England — the muted colors, the mix of burgundy and mustard. Just a simple outfit (no accessories needed) for what will hopefully be a non-fussy weekend.
