When it comes to dressing in a snap, I keep things straightforward and simple. For instance, yesterday the carpet-cleaning guy stopped by my apartment while I was still in my pajamas (oh, the perils of working from home), so I threw this outfit on before heading out the door to work at a coffee shop for the afternoon. I haven’t worn my chambray blouse for quite awhile, so I paired it with the first pants I could grab out of my closet and the easiest shoes I could slip on.

We’ve had the perfect summer weather here in Omaha lately. Yesterday, the high only reached 72, and Liz, Jeni and I took advantage of the break in heat to catch Shakespeare on the Green (you can see pics on my Instagram). We packed a cooler full of cheese, crackers, olives, chocolate and wine and spent last night watching the complete works of Shakespeare (abridged). It was hilarious, and if you ever get the chance to experience something like that in your city, take advantage!

After tearing my last black maxi skirt and being without one for a couple of years, I finally found one at Target that was both inexpensive but well-fitting. Score! And Old Navy lately has been killing it in the graphic tee department.

I’ll see you on the flip side of the long weekend. Happy Independence Day!

A summer of hats

Hats are having a moment in my closet (also seen earlier this week). My wide-brim fedoras are getting the most wear, other than my ball cap that I wear consistently when taking a hike or going for a walk. When my hair is misbehaving, I grab a hat from my hat wall, and all is well.

I wore this outfit last week to head to a local pizza place and catch the USA World Cup match. Did you guys watch yesterday’s match? So. Intense.

Summertime stripes

Happy Monday to all! How was your weekend? I’ve so enjoyed having my mom visit Omaha for a week. We explored the downtown farmers market, caught a movie, watched World Cup soccer and more.

I might or might not have worn a very similar outfit (see here) — after scouring the local Targets for the blue version. It was just too good to pass up again and is the ideal fabric for summer: light and lightweight. Plus I can’t say no to stripes in the summer! Admit it: You can’t either.

Je ne sais quoi

This weekend included a concert in the park, Thai food, the air-conditioning going out in my apartment and a swimming/dinner party. Of course, that meant a necessary trip to Trader Joe’s to stock up on supplies, and the cashier (a guy) said, “I just learned what that phrase meant last week. She’s got that je ne sais quoi.” It was hilarious.

I love pairing these shorts with everything (last seen here and here). And did I mention this shirt is on sale? Don’t tell, but I love it so much I wore it three times last week. It’s a problem.
