This was post-turkey coma weekend outfit. Slouchy pants with an elastic waistband, and you really can’t go wrong. I’ve had this vest for a couple of months, and it has been waiting for the perfect moment to be worn. The contrast of slouchy with the structured vest works so well for me, and I’m thinking these pants might become a weekend staple.
All this cool weather has me in the mood for wearing plaid. Even better than plaid? Mixing it with other textures, like wool and sequins! This blouse is the absolute best, and if I were completely honest, I don’t plan on taking it off this weekend.
Weekend plans, anyone? I’m headed to a game night tonight, and the rest of the weekend is wide open. I’m imagining a little cleaning (glamorous, right?) and finishing up the book I’m reading.
Top: TJ Maxx (peplum version) | Skirt: Gap (similar) | Heels: ShoeDazzle (similar) | Bag: Phillip Lim for Target (sold out online; designer version) | Ring: Forever 21 | Watch: Garage sale | Bracelets: Forever 21/My grandma’s
Yesterday I woke up bright and early to head to the nearest Target to snag a bag or two from the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection. The only problem? That store didn’t carry the collection. Luckily the next Target I headed to had a good-sized collection and was basically untouched! I found the two bags I’d had my eye on (see them here).
I think mustard yellow is one of the most versatile colors to pair with other colors — especially the wine color of my top. For September’s staple post, I wanted to go beyond the neutrals I’ve tended to pair the skirt with this year, and the color pop of my new bag against my top seemed just right!
Tell me: Did you manage to get something from the Phillip Lim collection?
Summer, as you well know if you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, is my least-favorite season. This summer, though, is different; we’ve hit 90+ degrees only a few days so far, and the evenings have been pleasant and cool — which made for the best weather for dinner on the water at this restaurant. We went to celebrate my roommate’s golden birthday (she turned 24 on July 24).
I recently found this dress at Goodwill, new with tags. It’s the most I’ve ever spent on a single item from a secondhand store, but the fit of the dress was too good to pass up. I convinced myself to buy it after considering whether or not I’d purchase it for the same price from a store like Macy’s or Dillard’s … and soon it was in my closet.
Happy, happy weekend! And P.S. Happy birthday to my dear friend Emily! Miss you!
I decided to venture into something slightly different with this month’s staple; rather than doing just a top, a bottom or a dress, I went with a layering piece that I have the feeling will be used more than just four times this month. I refused to do the denim vest trend for a while, just because it reminded me so much of my childhood. Then I thought, Why should I fear my childhood? I had a good childhood, filled with 90s backpacks, flower-printed jeans and — yes — denim vests. So here’s to embracing your childhood and ending up with a piece that is quickly becoming a weekly layering piece.
