Spring layers

Jacket: Nordstrom (similar here and here) | Sweatshirt: Gap (on sale!)Denim: Elle (similar) | Flats: TJ Maxx (similar) | Bag: Vintage Coach (similar) | Necklace: Von Maur (gift, similar here)

As I’ve mentioned before, spring is the trickiest season in terms of getting dressed every day. For me, denim is still my go-to (as it has been all winter), but I begin incorporating light colors and lightweight fabrics into my daily outfits. This jacket from Nordstrom was a little intimidating at first due to the crazy volume at the hips, but the key is to keep everything else streamlined and draw attention away from the volume with a pattern and a pop of color in a statement necklace. Seriously, I’ve worn this outfit at least once a week since we started getting slightly warmer weather. When it works, you just go with it!

Winter neutrals

Cashmere Sweater: Lands’ End (in love with this striped cashmere sweater) | Vest: Relativity (similar) | Denim: New York & Company (similar) | Boots: Franco Sarto via Macy’sBag: Banana RepublicHeadband: Forever 21 | Bracelets: Gift/Forever 21 (similar)/Banana Republic

I used to be so against wearing white in winter. It was never because of that whole no-white-after-Labor-Day rule (which, in my opinion, is completely bogus nowadays). I’ve just always been drawn to darker neutrals in the winter; but this outfit is quickly changing my mind. I love the mix of browns and creams! In spring, I plan on wearing this cashmere sweater with an army vest on a chillier day.

I’m headed back to the Indiana/Michigan area today! My brother is getting married this weekend, and I can’t wait to see family and friends I haven’t seen since moving to Omaha!

Shades of brown

When it comes to spending the afternoons out and about working at a local coffee shop, I like to stay casual and warm. For me, this means a blouse and/or a sweater, jeans and a pair of boots, topped off with a lightweight wool coat and a ridiculously fuzzy scarf.

Have a good one and stay warm, friends!

Pops of blue

Sweater: Forever 21 (love this graphic sweater) | Blouse (underneath): Target | Denim: Elle | Heels: Nine West via TJ Maxx | Bag: Brahmin (c/o Vogue) | Jacket: Banana Republic (similar) | Scarf: Gift from roommate | Rings: BaubleBar/Forever 21/Francesca’s

I made it to SLC about an hour before a major winter storm hit the valley, and since then, I’ve been enjoying a winter wonderland. Of course, these heels wouldn’t work in the snow we have now in SLC, but the mild temps we had earlier this week in Omaha were perfect for light layers and a fun pair of heels.

Hope you have a great weekend! Get all that shopping done and presents wrapped before the big day is here!

Menswear for fall

IMG_4370 IMG_4372 IMG_4382 IMG_4377

Oxford: J.CrewDenim: Gap (similar) | Brogues: Steve MaddenBag: Phillip Lim for Target (similar) | Hat: Gift (similar) | Bracelets: Forever 21 (similar) | Watch: Kohl’s (similar)

My favorite recurring fall trend is always menswear, and this particular outfit is the culmination of the best. From the oxford to the brogues, the boyfriend watch to the fedora, this is menswear in a wearable, chic way. The only thing missing? A tweed or plaid blazer (which I would have worn, had it not been a little too warm for that).

Can I just say I’m amazed at the versatility of this Mini Pashli Target bag? The mustard yellow just seems to add the right amount of color to every outfit I’ve worn it with — and I know it’ll get even more use once we get further into fall.
