Cool and comfortable

I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a long weekend so much. It was such a change from the past college weekends filled with an urgency to get homework finished and to unpack from college. Instead, I cherished the time I got to spend with family and friends, celebrating my graduation and relaxing. Here’s the breakdown:

Dress: WalMart (old, but similar here)
Flats: Relativity via Carson’s
Bag: Brahmin (c/o Vogue)
Hat: Forever 21 (similar here)
Bracelets: LOFT/My grandma’s
Watch: Garage sale
Lip Color: CoverGirl’s Delight

Summer is here, which means I want to dress as coolly and as comfortably as possible. Enter my chambray dress, which, even though it’s from WalMart a few years ago, has certainly proven a big player in my wardrobe. A few accessories, including my new Brahmin bag, and a pop of color complete my cool summer look. It’s all about a staple piece with enough accents to make the look my own.

Dinner and entertainment

About 15 minutes after these pictures were taken yesterday, we had the torrential downpour of the year. Luckily, the majority of the student body was already eating dinner inside. For those of us sitting by the window, we got to watch and laugh as the stragglers sprinted through the rain. It was dinner and entertainment. Here’s the breakdown:

Jacket: LOFT (similar here)
Blouse: J.Crew via Goodwill (similar here)
Dress: WalMart
Boots: Goodwill
Bag: Brahmin (c/o Vogue)
Necklace: Elder Beerman
Bracelets: Forever 21/My grandma’s/Saver’s

I felt very English-countryside with my rain boots and denim dress. My favorite part of the outfit, though, is the pop of print in my blouse. I’m always amazed at how a little layering can elevate a look. All that I really need now is a pink gingham shirt to layer with the floral blouse and jacket.

My weekend: Baseball games, bike races and scholarship dinners

I’m pretty sure the weekend didn’t actually happen because it seemed to go by in a blur. I was busy most of the weekend with homework, my university’s annual bike race, a scholarship dinner and a Cincinnati Reds’ baseball game (after which we walked across the Ohio River to get ice cream). I wouldn’t have one of my last weekends as an undergrad any other way, though. Time with friends is time well spent.

We were freezing our cans off watching the bike race. It was low 40s with a nasty wind. Maybe I should have kept one winter coat at school.

Pinspired: The crazed look

As we were taking today’s pictures, my roommate started snickering. The wind was coming at just the right direction to blow my hair up in the crazy way you see in the above pictures. I promise I did not tease my hair. I didn’t even buy a Bump It from an infomercial. This look comes au natural, courtesy of the wind and Mother Nature. Here’s the breakdown:

Blazer: Garage sale
T-Shirt: Walmart
Pants: Goodwill
Flats: Tahari via Goodwill
Necklace: Garage sale

Today’s pinspiration comes from the star of one of my favorite rom coms, When In Rome. I’ve decided to keep these polka dot pants, despite my consideration to chuck them after my mom called them “old lady pants.” However, I like them; they’re quirky, and they’ll have to make due, considering the nearest Topshop with polka dot pants like Kristen Bell’s is 11 hours away.

When my plans fall through

I know I haven’t said this for awhile, but I am so thankful for your support in reading and following my blog! Writing and editing Re-Mix-Her is truly one of my favorite parts of my day, and I love writing while knowing that I have such supportive and loving readers. So thank you! Here’s the breakdown:

Blazer: The Limited via Garage sale
Tee: WalMart
Denim: Elle via Kohl’s
Boots: Garage sale
Bag: Garage sale
Necklace: Gap

This outfit was initially centered around my ’70s-inspired floppy hat that I planned on wearing. After looking at myself in the mirror, however, I deemed I looked too styled for my own good. Isn’t it funny that sometimes I don’t mind piling on one too many bracelets, yet trying a hat with this look was too much? I’d rather simply look styled rather than over-styled.

Have a great weekend!
