Sometimes I look back on my outfits and think, What was I thinking? It’s not usually because of the outfit itself (thank goodness), but usually a weather choice. For instance, when I wore this last week, it was in the 90s and humid as all get out. But I just had to wear that wool wide-brimmed fedora, didn’t I? Luckily, most of my day is spent some place air-conditioned, but still … clearly my inner stylist is wishing fall would get here already.

We’re entering the transition between summer and fall, when all I want to do is two things: 1) wear cozy fall clothes, and 2) complain about not getting to wear said clothes because temps are still in the 80s. My temporary solution is summer-appropriate clothes in neutral, fall colors. I’ve only pulled out this kimono a few times this summer, but I love it more every time I wear it. I never thought I’d be a “kimono girl” (you know exactly the type of person I’m describing — admit it), and even though I don’t fit under the category of super artistic person or your wacky art teacher in middle school, I love that a kimono can still fit into my wardrobe and my personal style and still feel like me.

Well, Monday has rolled around again. Early Saturday morning, Liz, Emma, Anna and I headed down to Kansas City for a girls weekend getaway. I love traveling to new cities and seeing what they have to offer, but doing it with three friends and plenty of laughter along the way is the best. Let’s just say the weekend held lots of shopping, getting locked out of our hotel room, a half-naked man in Mac, the hottest day of the summer and some seriously good food (and even better company). But you’ll get to hear more about the trip this week!
On to the outfit: I’ve been in search of a romper or a jumpsuit for quite awhile (especially after Liz found one this summer). After a fairly fruitless search, I found one on clearance at Kohl’s that is just too good. I decided to save it for our girls weekend when we went out on the town for dinner Saturday evening. I obviously couldn’t wear it without my favorite new heels.

Back when I bought these shorts from Old Navy in the spring, I had no idea how much rotation they’d get from week to week. They’ve been on all the trips I’ve taken this summer and seem to go with so many tops I own. I’ve paired them with a crop top, a graphic T-shirt and a printed sweatshirt. Needless to say, their cost-per-wear was well worth it (especially considering they were so affordable in the first place).
How was your weekend? It was a good one for me! The rain held off for the baseball game and concert Friday, then Saturday was spent at the downtown farmers market, grabbing some coffee, doing a little work, spending time by the pool, and getting my birthday celebrations underway a few days early.

My closet is filled with probably 75% neutrals, and of those, olive green is slowly overtaking my wardrobe. Somehow the color manages to feel fresh almost every season, including the perpetually awkward transition between summer and fall. These shorts will definitely be heavy hitters as we move closer to September; I love that they’re easy to dress up and dress down.
On the schedule for me this weekend: a baseball game and a concert! Other than those two events, my weekend is wide open — and I think I hear the pool calling my name. Have a good one!
