Friday is officially here! This week has been a long one for some reason, and I’m looking forward to some downtime this weekend (and maybe a fall closet/beauty organization session). Did I mention it’s only going to be 57 degrees here today? I’m in heaven.

I love this time of year because I can get away with wearing jeans and a short-sleeved top that’s not just a cotton T-shirt. I picked this H&M top up during my recent trip to Kansas City, and it’s made out of this heavy, almost neoprene-like material. I had to go monotone with it and pair it with gray jeans (with a pop of mustard, the color that makes its way into my wardrobe every fall).

Happy weekend!

Hello, autumn

There’s nothing I love more than fall weather that hits early. We’ve really been lucky here in Omaha, as a couple of days last week and this week have been in the 60s. When the weather dipped below 70, I took the opportunity to slip into jeans (duh) and don a wool fedora. I also had to wear this cool, vintage jacket I found recently; initially I wasn’t going to get it, but these colors screamed “autumn” to me — and the rest is history!

Spiked

It never fails: When fall rolls around, my outfits become a bit edgier. I’ve had this spiked-shoulder top from Forever 21 in my closet for more than a year, unsure of how to wear it without looking too rough. I think using it as a vest is perfect. Once again, these Target shorts have proved more versatile than I ever thought, even pairing well with edgier pieces in my wardrobe.

So how was your weekend? For me, it was one of those perfect weekends: ideal weather, no set plans. New (free) patio furniture, movies galore, a new restaurant. All in all, it was a good weekend.

My transition staple

These shorts (which I first mentioned here and convinced myself of their wearability to the point that I ran to Target that weekend to grab a pair) have proved to be heavy hitters in my wardrobe.

I may or may not be wearing them as I’m writing this. Not even kidding.

They’re perfect for this time of year: still appropriate for summer weather but very fall-like in their print and colors. That’s the combination for a winner in my book.

August beauty favorites

August has come and gone, which means it’s time for another round of monthly beauty favorites. This month, I’ve focused on bold brows and soft, smokey eyes. My favorite beauty products this month, however, have undoubtedly been for my lips.

About a year ago, I was on the hunt for the perfect nude lip color, and the one that looked most natural on me was Marc Jacobs’ Moody Margot. I hate nude lips that make you look like you either a) are a walking corpse or b) piled concealer on your lips. Moody Margot is my perfect nude, and I’ve paired it with MAC’s Clear Water (from their Alluring Aquatics collection) to give it a hint of sparkle. Clear Water is currently sold out everywhere, but Marc Jacobs’ Magic is a great dupe.

I tend to steer clear of anything related to the 90s, but after seeing Jaclyn’s Kylie Jenner-inspired tutorial, I had to try out the brown lip trend. It’s been my go-to look for nights out on the town, and to achieve it, I fill in my lips using Rimmel London’s Exaggerate Lip Liner in Innocent, apply Smashbox’s Be Legendary Lipstick in Honey, blot my lips with a tissue and apply bellápierre’s Super Gloss in Vanilla Pink.

For the rest of my makeup, I’ve kept things similar in terms of my base (foundation, concealer, primer, etc.), but I have added a new tool: a Beautyblender Micro Mini. It’s so good for covering up blemishes and red spots … plus it’s mini, and we all know how adorable little versions of everything are.

I also recently discovered Sonia Kashuk’s line at Target. I know — it’s been there forever, but it has always seemed a little overpriced for “drugstore” makeup. Ladies: Run to your nearest Target today to get the Undetectable Cream Bronzer and the Eye on Neutral Matte Palette. Oh. My. Goodness. Both are so, so good, and the cream bronzer? I’ve been using it nonstop; it’s natural-looking and easy to apply. I don’t know that I’ll ever buy a powder bronzer again.

I’ve loved the look of a matte eyelid with just a pop of shimmer, so to achieve the glow, I’ve used either L’Oreal’s Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte or Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Space Cowboy. If I’m not lining my eyes with Marc Jacobs’ Highliner Gel Crayon in Brown(Out) (yay for 100-point perks at Sephora!), I’ve been creating a cat eye with gel liners. My favorite black one is Urban Decay’s Perversion, and my favorite brown one is Bobbi Brown’s Chocolate Shimmer Ink.

What beauty products have you been using this month? I’d love to hear in the comment section!
