After styling my staple of the month (this denim vest) two dressed-up ways (here and here), I wanted something slightly more casual. I picked up this tee from Gap a few weekends ago and love the vibrancy of it paired with these hot pink skinny jeans.
So I’ve paired with vest with a dress, a skirt and jeans. What would you like to see for the last May staple post?

Denim can be tricky for the office, but a denim vest? Completely doable for your 9-5! I wanted to style the vest in an office-appropriate way, with a bit of a twist. Last year’s obsession was mixing leopard and stripes, and I think this year it’ll be flowers and stripes.
Can you believe it’s Monday already? I had the best weekend, including a trip to the farmers market, a walk downtown, a few great movies, dinner with a new friend and some amazing food. Can it be Friday yet?

I decided to venture into something slightly different with this month’s staple; rather than doing just a top, a bottom or a dress, I went with a layering piece that I have the feeling will be used more than just four times this month. I refused to do the denim vest trend for a while, just because it reminded me so much of my childhood. Then I thought, Why should I fear my childhood? I had a good childhood, filled with 90s backpacks, flower-printed jeans and — yes — denim vests. So here’s to embracing your childhood and ending up with a piece that is quickly becoming a weekly layering piece.

One of the perks of working from home is being able to be portable and explore different areas of the city. My favorite areas to explore include some sort of coffee with free wifi so I can continue to work, and my roommate and I found this adorable European bakery in midtown that we’ll most certainly be back to visit. Seeing as how spring arrived (finally) last week, I decided to take this flowy illusion maxi skirt (only $20 at Target!) out for a spin. I love the color!
Top: Elle via Kohl’s | Pants: Gap | Booties: Target (last year) | Necklace: Forever 21 | Bag: Brahmin (c/o Vogue ) | Sunnies: Lauren Conrad via Kohl’s
After pairing these pants all month with different shades of blue and mixed prints (here, here and here), it was time to mix it up. This peplum top adds a bit of flare and needed texture to the outfit, and sometimes all you need to complete an outfit is a staple bag and a chunky necklace.
How was your weekend? I spent it outside, exploring new neighborhoods, relaxing on our balcony and watching The Big Wedding (yay for chick flicks!).
