Yesterday was the first day of my internship for the summer, and I absolutely loved it. They kept me busy, which made the day fly by, and before I knew it, the clock had reached 5. One of the best parts of the internship is that it keeps me inside for most of the day, which means it keeps me from the drenching humidity here in Arkansas. Humidity means frizzy hair for me, so I’m more than okay with staying in air-conditioning. Here’s the breakdown:
Dress: Ann Taylor LOFT
Blazer: Forever 21
T-Straps: Goodwill (Franco Sarto)
Belt: TJ Maxx (American Eagle)
Bag: Brahmin (c/o Vogue)
I wore an outfit very similar to this last fall (in fact, I’m almost certain it’s the same blazer), but I figured why change a good thing? I wanted to look professional yet feminine for my first day, and the ruffles on this dress scream girly while the blazer keeps things tamed and professional. Surprisingly, I stayed in these heels the whole day without any sort feet. I didn’t even have to pull out my flats that I stored in my trusty (and favorite) Brahmin tote.
Now onto the second day!
The good thing about spring: warmer temps. The bad thing about spring: all of the rain. Hence the reason the pictures are inside today. Ok, that’s only part of the reason. The other part is that I have some major homework assignments that are due tomorrow. Two birds with one stone. Here’s the breakdown:
Cardigan: Handed down from my mom (Banana Republic)
Blouse: Garage sale (J.Crew)
Rain Boots: Goodwill
Necklace: Elder Beerman
Earrings: Peebles/Garage sale
Nail Polish: Little Brown Dress by Essie
I finally found another pair of rain boots to replace the ones that had a hole in them! Goodwill is such a Re-Mix-Her-appropriate place to find a pair, too. These were $10 in Nashville and just my size. Score! I love that they’re brown, which I feel is more versatile for my wardrobe. Brown is much easier to pair with spring colors like this teal and a pop of pink, perfect for a little brightness on a rainy day.
Coming back to school can be such a bummer after a wonderful break! I’m jumping right in with two papers and a presentation within the next two weeks, on top of figuring out next semester’s class schedule. I’m going to be a busy, busy girl. Luckily I have some new clothes from vacation to keep me motivated, not to mention the beautiful spring weather that’s coming little by little. Here’s the breakdown:
Floral Blouse: Elle (Kohl’s)
Jeggings: Old Navy
Boots: DSW online
One of my last days of vacation, I went to our local Kohl’s. I was never really a Kohl’s fan until they began carrying the lines by Elle, Vera Wang, and Lauren Conrad. You can imagine my delight when I walked out of the store with four items by the aforementioned lines for a little over $25. The cashier told me the total and said, “You just saved $216.” I practically beamed. Bargain shopping success!
So this floral blouse was one of my finds. I loved the incorporation of both the print and the lace, and because the shirt kind of spoke for itself, I kept the rest of my outfit simple. I considered going with black ankle boots but decided on the brown lace-ups; they just give a little unexpectedness to the outfit. Add some gorgeous earrings and a messy up-do, and you’ve got just the right amount of romantic-inspired style - just in time for a little spring sunshine!
Today, a number of us fashion bloggers pledged to wear red today in support of Go Red for Women. Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States, and the American Heart Association is supporting the Red campaign to raise awareness of this issue. If you’d like more information about the American Heart Association and the Go Red for Women campaign, click here. It’s a great cause! Here’s the breakdown:
Blazer: Goodwill (Gap)
Necktie Blouse: Garage sale (Gap)
Tank (underneath): Old Navy
Jeans: Garage sale (H&M)
Today’s outfit was one of those instances of two items hanging on the same hanger and me realizing how subconsciously brilliant I am. As you can see, it’s still icy in spots (snow drifts frozen solid and covered in an inch of ice), so I took and risk and wore my lovely leopard flats. I love the tie and the idea of letting it hang down rather than tying it in a bow; it kind of gives the outfit an androgynous look. I wish the wind would have died down for the photoshoot. Oh, well!
Have a great weekend, everybody! Be sure to check out the Go Red for Women campaign and read my Fashion Beauty Friend Friday post below.
We are currently in the middle of what’s predicted to be one of the season’s biggest snowstorms today. Luckily for me, the spring semester just started, which means plenty of reading, homework, tea, and my roommate! My roommate just got back from studying abroad in London during January. She brought me some goodies, two of which are being showcased today along with my finished cardigan. Here’s the breakdown:
Plaid Button-Up: Goodwill (American Eagle)
Jeggings: Elle (Kohl’s)
Boots: Garage sale
As motivation for getting my cardigan done, my mom ordered three pins off of eBay to go along with my sweater. In the Vogue Knitting magazine where I got the pattern for the cardigan, they styled it with a plaid shirt underneath with English pins on it. My mom was sweet enough to hunt down some pins to match. Then my roommate bought some pins in England that go perfectly with the sweater. Sneaky roommate.
I have two other projects already started: a hat and another sweater. I’d better get hopping on those if I want to wear them while it’s still chilly outside!
