When summer makes a reappearance when the entire human population is clearly ready for cooler weather, I have no choice but to go with black and white. Faux leather might not have been the best choice in heat and humidity, but I can’t resist working in my fall wardrobe even in the midst of Indian summer. Later this fall, I plan to pair this top with colored skinnies and a tweed wool blazer.
Now if only fall would show its pretty face …

When Indian summer hits and all I want to do is layer and wear fall clothes, the only thing to do is to dress simply. I’m glad I kept my summer dresses out for days such as this. Red, navy and touches of gold? It’s the very best of summer — hopefully until next April or May.
P.S. Isn’t my fox ring cute? You can get yours at F21 for less than $3!

My panama hat undoubtedly wins the summer staple award this year. I love hats year-round, but this hat in particular seems to work in every season except winter. I wore it non-stop during the Fourth of July weekend. It also works so well for hiding my hair on the days I don’t feel like doing much to it.
So tell me: What is YOUR summer staple?
P.S. A very happy birthday to my best friend/roommate/photographer, Liz!

Throughout the past year, I’ve come to find that while your “typical” neutrals are great (black, brown, navy, white, olive green, etc.), colors can also act as neutrals. Take these cobalt pants; they work so well with this mint sweater, but I could also see them working with a kelly green top, a peach top, an orange top — I could go on and on. But do you see my point? Who knew how versatile colored pants would be? I’m officially a convert.
Apparently this blouse is meant to be worn with non-skinny jeans (as evidenced here). I found these wide-leg jeans in my closet, and they spoke to me. So for casual Friday, I’m steering away from my typical skinny jeans and going for a different look. Here’s to trying something different this weekend!
