Colorblocked in cobalt and mint

imageimageimageimageimageSweater: Forever 21 | Trousers: Gap | Booties: Payless | Clutch: Vintage | Earrings: ???

Throughout the past year, I’ve come to find that while your “typical” neutrals are great (black, brown, navy, white, olive green, etc.), colors can also act as neutrals. Take these cobalt pants; they work so well with this mint sweater, but I could also see them working with a kelly green top, a peach top, an orange top — I could go on and on. But do you see my point? Who knew how versatile colored pants would be? I’m officially a convert.

Wide-leg denim

Blouse: Gap (similar) | Denim: American Eagle via TJ Maxx (similar) | Booties: Payless (similar) | Bag: Vintage (similar) | Watch: Kohl’s | Bracelet: Glitterish (c/o) (love this necklace version)

Apparently this blouse is meant to be worn with non-skinny jeans (as evidenced here). I found these wide-leg jeans in my closet, and they spoke to me. So for casual Friday, I’m steering away from my typical skinny jeans and going for a different look. Here’s to trying something different this weekend!

Why blazers are super wearable

As silly as this sounds, I love how the above photo turned out. It looks very HDR-ish (which, for you non-photo types like me, means high dynamic range, and the only reason why I know that is because my roommate during college was a photography major). And I did it without using Photoshop (although I am a big advocate of Photoshop). I use Google’s Picasa, which is a free and awesome program, to edit my photos. Here’s the breakdown:

Blazer: Forever 21
T-Shirt: Gap
Shorts: Tommy Hilfiger via Garage sale
Shooties: Payless (similar)
Sunnies: Free People
Clutch: Vintage via Salvation Army
Necklaces: Gap/Garage sale
Rings: H&M/Forever 21 (great options here and here)

My closet is full of blazers, and even in summer I can’t seem to go long without wearing one! Blazers for me are the ultimate layering piece because they add structure without bulk (unless you buy ones with shoulder pads, which I wouldn’t recommend). Plus blazers are an easy way to add depth to an otherwise simple outfit, much like this denim shorts and T-shirt ensemble.

Pinspired: Color-blocked

Fellow blog readers: I need your help! I’m going to be making a few changes around here over the next month or so, and I’d like your input. What kinds of posts would you like to see more of (outfits, wish lists, sale alerts, wish lists under a certain dollar amount, beauty posts, accessories posts, thrifting posts)? These are just a few suggestions, but if you think of more, let me know. Feel free to comment below and tell me what you think. You can also tweet me, email me or Facebook me. Here’s the breakdown:

Blouse: JC Penney
Denim: Bisou Bisou via JC Penney
Booties: Payless
Ring: LOFT
Earrings: ???
Kindle Fire Cover: Liz Claiborne via JC Penney
Sunnies: Forever 21

This week’s “pinspired” look is the result of this pin. I not only loved the colorblocking, but I found the simplicity and minimal accessories refreshing. I did the same by adding in a few more subtle accessories and keeping the rest of my look neutral (with the exception of the stripes on my tablet cover).

Daily: Presentation Chic

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I’m currently in Orlando at a journalism conference … where it’s 80 degrees. So needless to say, I am not wearing this particular outfit, but knowing that my days would be so busy that outfit photos probably weren’t likely, I decided to save these photos from earlier this week for today. Lucky you. Here’s the breakdown:

Sweater: Banana Republic
Blouse: Garage sale (American Eagle)
Trousers: Gap
Booties: Payless
Necklace: American Eagle
Bag: Brahmin (c/o Vogue)

I actually wore this outfit for a presentation on Tuesday. These pieces are all classics that I’m so glad I invested in. Paired together, they become a very chic yet understated outfit that transcends seasons. I love the way my cutout booties play off of my Brahmin bag (my current favorite that goes with me everywhere). Nothing like simplicity to make a girl feel sophisticated.
