Buffalo plaid and books

Why, yes, I have indeed worn these pants multiple times in the past few weeks. But when pants are so comfy and so chic at the same time, you really can’t resist the temptation to wear them as often as possible. I wore these pants earlier this week in a 9-5-appropriate way, so I wanted to wear them in a way that’s ideal for a casual weekend. With stripes, quilted leather, buffalo plaid and a good book, I am more than ready to take on the weekend!

Neutrals in summer

After a very fun week in Ohio and a fun but packed weekend in Chicago, I’m back at it in Omaha. My college friend Keri is getting hitched in July, and we celebrated the bachelorette party a bit early and had a personal cooking lesson with a professional chef. So. Good. I’m a Top ChefMasterChef, Hell’s Kitchen, all around Food Network freak, and now I want a chef to teach me to stop by my apartment every week to teach me a new dish. Liz and I got back in around 1:00 on Monday morning, and sleep was the very first thing on my mind. Thanks for sticking with me through my unplanned break!

Most people shy away from black in the summer, but I find I reach for it year-round. The trick is making it season-appropriate, and these shorts from Old Navy do the trick (last seen here). I wore them multiple times during my trip, and they’re just as versatile with a silky tank as they are with a printed sweatshirt.

Happy Tuesday! How was your long weekend? Besides relaxing, doing some apartment cleaning, grilling and shopping, Liz, Jeni and I saw Wicked on Sunday! I’d never seen the musical before, and after seeing in the winter of 2013 that Wicked was coming to Omaha in May of 2014, I’d begun counting down the months and eventually days until the show. Needless to say, it was fantastic, and if you’ve never seen it, you must!

I’ve made it my mission to wear more of my skirts and dresses this summer. The thought of pairing them with tights this past fall/winter season wasn’t exactly appealing, but now that warm weather is here to stay, I’m pulling out all the stops and making sure my more feminine pieces get put on heavy rotation.

Sunny days ahead

Dress: Forever 21 (last year) | Jacket: Gap | Hat: Marshalls | Sandals: TJ Maxx | Bag: Michael Michael Kors | Necklace: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Now that warm weather is here to stay (or so it seems), my dresses are going to be making frequent appearances. For some reason this winter, I was not in the mood for anything involving tights, so that meant jeans it was for most of the cold weather.

I just love this simple outfit: a flowy dress, a denim jacket, my favorite Panama hat and a pop of orange. Happy Thursday, and thanks for stopping by!

Spring updates

Jacket: MNG by Mango (similar) | Sweater: Gap (similar and on sale!) | Denim: Elle (similar) | Flats: Vince Camuto via TJ Maxx (super similar) | Bag: Brahmin (c/o Vogue) | Necklace: Marc by Marc Jacobs (similar)

As I’ve mentioned before once warmer weather hit us here in Omaha, I find spring to be the hardest transition as far as outfits go. You never know if it’s going to be chilly outside but too warm inside, etc. I’ve found that during these transitional months, it’s best to work with light layers and make small updates to keep your outfit spring-friendly.

For instance, boyfriend jeans are perfect for this time of year. Had I worn a similar outfit in the dead of winter, I would have paired this jacket with a cashmere sweater, skinny jeans, and knee-high boots. But with a few small updates, like flats instead of boots and cotton instead of cashmere, my outfit becomes oh-so-springlike and works indoors and out.

Happy, happy weekend! What are your plans? The weather is supposed to cool down for us, unfortunately, so I’m hoping for a movie marathon and possibly a game night.
