Neutrality

The weekend went by way too quickly (as most weekends seem to do). It included a lot of movies, a Target trip or two and taking advantage of Sephora’s VIB sale (finally get to try this eyeshadow in diamond dog!). Monday calls for an easy, little-thought-required outfit, and for me, that means neutrals, leopard and a hint of gold. Oh, and a few edgy touches (like my motorcycle jeans and gold-hardware boots).

A rainy October day

I love a rainy day in October. These days make me want to curl up under a blanket with a good book and a warm cup of tea, coffee or cider — and that’s what happened this weekend. I had a work-filled, low-key weekend due to a huge project, but the cool, cloudy weather made going to a local coffee shop to warm up absolutely necessary.

So when the day turns rainy, I turn to earthy colors and layers. As usual, my chambray blouse is my number-one layering top. Mustard yellow and olive green were meant to be, and some fringe booties and a leopard umbrella are just what is needed to brighten up a gray day.

Monochromatic

This fall, neutrals are my thing, and when pairing neutrals, it’s important to remember texture is key to making an outfit interesting. Despite slightly warmer temps last week, wool and a sweatshirt material make an otherwise summery outfit feel very fall-like. I’ll definitely be copying this look again with black tights and ankle booties come cooler weather.

What are your plans for the weekend? I hope to spend a couple hours swapping out summer clothes in my closet for sweaters and boots. Other than that, a little relaxation and pumpkin pie coffee are in order.

Remix week: The cargo jacket

Downloads63 Downloads62Since I’m on vacation this week, I’m taking a break from my usual posts and introducing Remix Week! My blog is, after all, about remixing items, so this week, I’m going to be showing you my wardrobe heavy-hitters. These are the items I’d gladly buy brand new, off the racks, not on sale because I know for a fact (and have photographic proof) that they get a lot of wear.

Day one’s choice was obvious: my cargo jacket from Loft I bought a little over two years ago. I’ve worn it for casual outings, paired over pencil skirts and a blouse, with heels for work, with flats for the weekend — you name it, and I’ve worn it with this jacket. It goes with me on every vacation, including the one I’m on right now! You never know when you need a light jacket to cover up in AC, and this jacket goes with everything.

One last go-round

I’m trying to give my summer dresses one last go-round before I put them away until next spring. Some dresses I can see pairing with tights, but some I just don’t see working into fall. I can’t really imagine any way to make this dress above very cool-weather appropriate; what about you? Any suggestions?

Happy weekend! I have absolutely no set plans for the weekend — which is OK by me because next weekend, my roommate and I will be headed out to Salt Lake City! I’m looking forward to a low-key weekend before this next week becomes insane with packing and prepping.
