Easy and breezy

Denim Jacket: Abercrombie (old) | Dress: Forever 21 | Wedges: Relativity | Bag: Francesca’s | Sunnies: Lauren Conrad | Necklace: Macy’s | Rings: Banana Republic/Forever 21/Charming Charlie

My wardrobe a few years ago consisted of jeans, shorts, more jeans and a few skirts and dresses here and there. I’ve slowly tried to accumulate more dresses and less jeans, and even though I work from home and don’t have a necessity for slightly more-formal wear, I still find myself reaching for those recently-acquired dresses and skirts. This particular dress was only $20 from Forever 21. Come the warm, summer heat, I’ll wear it sans a jacket, but for now while we’re still experiencing a cool spring, I want to get as much out of layering as possible.

Have a great long weekend, everyone!

Classically spring

Sometimes the best outfits are those that need minimal accessories beyond a fantastic (vintage) bag, a bright pop of color and poppy lipstick. These pieces are what I reach for on those mornings when I feel I have absolutely nothing to wear. Nothing says springtime like nautical stripes and a trench.

What pieces in your closet do you reach for when you “having nothing to wear”?

Staple of the month: April

IMG_2274 IMG_2281 IMG_2275 IMG_2269Blazer: Banana Republic via Goodwill | Shirt: JC Penney | Pants: Gap | Brogues: Target | Bag: Francesca’s | Necklace: Forever 21 | Rings: Charming Charlie/Forever 21/Madewell

I had originally planned to wear pink with these pants for week two of my April staple of the month series, but after finding these brogues at Target for $10 over the weekend and seeing this shirt laying on top of my clothing bins, I just had to pair the pants with blues together. (See last week’s feature here.) Orange is quickly becoming one of my favorite colors (it works so well for spring, summer, fall and even winter), and this bag was long overdue in my wardrobe. It’ll work so well for hands-free carrying while exploring downtown and shopping at the farmers’ market in a few weeks.

Staple of the month: March

Last Friday, my roommate had the day off, so we went in search of a different coffee shop than the usual Starbucks. Working from home sure has its perks, including the ability to wear jeans when I don’t feel like putting on a dress/skirt with tights (which I want to boycott until the weather starts acting like March). So I juxtaposed my slightly slouchier boyfriend jeans with a decidedly feminine blazer in a tuxedo style. (See how I wore my March staple the first time here.)

Sparkle and an old lady

After ten days or so of the same clothes over and over again from my suitcase, I dove into my roommate’s closet. Working from home allows me to dress however I’d like, and on this particular day, I wanted comfy. Black jeggings, a striped cardigan, and a silky blouse were exactly what I wanted.

And, of course, you can’t forget a little sparkle! A little old lady in Marshall’s told me she loved my necklace, asked me where it was from, and promptly told me in her shaky voice, “Don’t ever get rid of that! You’ll have it and wear it years from now. I’d wear it now.” Either my taste in jewelry is timeless or old-lady-like. Or that lady was just trying to guilt-trip me into giving her my necklace. It didn’t work.
