Wonders for the soul

Our weather has been a pendulum lately, so despite my many shorts and dresses lately, I’m wearing denim today … and long sleeves. If summer were like this throughout July and August, I would be one happy girl. Oh, well. It’s a nice thought. Here’s the breakdown:

Gingham Blouse: American Eagle via Goodwill
Tank: Old Navy
Denim: Bisou Bisou via JC Penney
Wedges: Relativity via Carsons
Bag: Maurizio Taiuti via Garage sale
Sunnies: Franco Sarto via Marshall’s
Necklace: Kohl’s
Belt: Old Navy
Rings: H&M/Forever 21/Gifts

This color combination is a favorite of mine. I wore a very similar outfit here back in April, but it was a solids-only ensemble. Color is huge for the summer, and I plan on continuing that trend come fall and winter. A bright, cheery pant with added color on top does wonders for the soul.

Pinspired: Color-blocked

Fellow blog readers: I need your help! I’m going to be making a few changes around here over the next month or so, and I’d like your input. What kinds of posts would you like to see more of (outfits, wish lists, sale alerts, wish lists under a certain dollar amount, beauty posts, accessories posts, thrifting posts)? These are just a few suggestions, but if you think of more, let me know. Feel free to comment below and tell me what you think. You can also tweet me, email me or Facebook me. Here’s the breakdown:

Blouse: JC Penney
Denim: Bisou Bisou via JC Penney
Booties: Payless
Ring: LOFT
Earrings: ???
Kindle Fire Cover: Liz Claiborne via JC Penney
Sunnies: Forever 21

This week’s “pinspired” look is the result of this pin. I not only loved the colorblocking, but I found the simplicity and minimal accessories refreshing. I did the same by adding in a few more subtle accessories and keeping the rest of my look neutral (with the exception of the stripes on my tablet cover).

Double plaid

Motivation is beginning to disappear quite quickly. With a little less than four weeks and counting until classes finish and less than five weeks and counting until graduation, I find myself worrying more and more about the future as opposed to worrying about homework assignments that seem so temporary. Here’s the breakdown:

Trench: Bandolino via Goodwill
Blazer: Forever 21
Button-Up: Garage sale
Denim: Bisou Bisou via JC Penney
Brogues: Steve Madden via eBay
Sunnies: Forever 21
Bag: ???
Watch: Garage sale
Bracelets: Forever 21/My grandma’s/Garage sale

I figure I might as well take advantage of my numbered collegiate days and be inspired slightly by the preppy look. I love the primary colors that abound in this outfit, but I especially love the double plaid look when my coat blows open slightly. It’s such a contrast, but when paired with everything else in the ensemble, I think it works.

I don’t show this bag a lot on the blog because it primarily serves as my computer bag and my bag for carrying lots of heavy textbooks (something I try not to have my other bags do to preserve them for as long as possible). This one I bought right before my freshman year of college, and it has stayed with me through the many papers, thunderstorms, homework assignments, snow and library trips. The leather has worn in the best way possible, and it’s still sturdy and beautiful enough that I plan on keeping it for … probably forever.

On the shores of Lake Michigan

After a relaxing but productive (Is that an oxymoron?) spring break, it’s time to get back to the school grind. I had a wonderful end to the week with a trip to a few quaint towns on the shores of Lake Michigan. My dad and I spent the day popping in and out of shops, taking pictures of the waters and eating some amazing ribs. I can’t think of a better end to spring break! Here’s the breakdown:

Blouse: Jones New York via Salvation Army
Denim: Bisou Bisou via JC Penney
Sandals: Forever 21
Bag: Coach via Garage sale
Bracelets: Saver’s/Forever 21

For our one-day excursion, comfort and layers were key (I wore a trench coat while walking around). I wanted to add some color to the outfit instead of simply wearing a black-and-white blouse (quirky as the print might be), so cobalt blue colored denim were in order. I also wanted to take my new Forever 21 sandals, which surprisingly go with many items in my closet, out for a spin.

Even brighter

I can’t believe it’s already Friday! That means it will soon be back to the school grind (but only for seven more weeks). Luckily, the weekend is supposed to bring cooler weather than what we’ve been having lately, which means tomorrow is the perfect opportunity to go exploring and adventuring in Michigan! Here’s the breakdown:

Sweater: Lauren Ralph Lauren via Garage sale
Denim: Bisou Bisou via JC Penney
Sandals: Old Navy
Bag: Coach via Garage sale
Watch: Garage sale
Necklace: H&M
Bracelets: My grandma’s/Saver’s/Garage sale

Another bright look for an even brighter day. The two pairs of colored denim were a great buy, and as soon as this weather cools off a little, I plan on pairing them with all sorts of colors. Bring on the colorblock!

Enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday! Oh, and one last gem before you go: Clearly (as if the “I hate bugs” face wasn’t enough of a clue), I was not made for mother nature.
