One of the things I want to work on in 2013 is layering. My problem is that with too many layers, I get too warm; for me, the key to layering is doing so with light layers. For this look, it’s all cotton except for my merino wool cardigan. It ended up being the perfect mix — all with a lot of help and inspiration from this pin.

Cardigan: J.Crew via Goodwill (love this preppier version and this grandpa version) | Cords: Gap (similar bootcut version) | Flats: BDG via Garage sale (similar) | Bag: Vintage Coach via Garage sale | Earrings: Topshop
I went through an argyle phase my freshman year of college and, essentially, argyled myself out. I was never quite sure how to style such a classic, preppy print. I think the key to styling argyle in a modern way is to pick up a print in unexpected colors, like this yellowish green, and pair it with a contrasting color (like these eggplant cords) and a contrasting print (like these snakeskin flats).

I purposefully put these pictures in the order above so you wouldn’t think I was pulling a LiLo and going sans pants (see the shot-from-behind picture). And if that intro to today’s post doesn’t make you quit reading, I don’t know what will. But thanks, if you are still reading. Here’s the breakdown:
Cardigan: American Eagle
Blouse: The Limited via Garage sale (sleeveless version here)
Short: Gap
Flats: BDG via Salvation Army (similar here)
Sunnies: Forever 21
Bag: Vintage Coach via Garage sale
Watch: Garage sale
Bracelets: Elder Beerman/Forever 21/Goodwill/My grandma’s
I’ve never been much of a lime green gal, but after spotting the color on so many other bloggers this season and finding this blouse at a garage sale for a dollar, I decided to give it a whirl. Rather than going the pastel route, I accented its vividness with navy blue and hints of black. Oh, and some animal print!
